Vikki Zhang

Born in 1994 in Huai’an, Jiangsu, Vikki Zhang is a Chinese artist and illustrator. She holds an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Currently based in Shanghai, she is the founder of her own independent creative studio, and also serves as founder and art director of NIANYI, a contemporary Neo-Chinese lifestyle brand.

Her early training in traditional ink painting has shaped her distinctive artistic language and aesthetic. Rooted in delicate hand-drawn techniques, her works combine narrative depth with decorative detail, reflecting a cross-cultural perspective that bridges Eastern and Western visual traditions.

She has collaborated with a wide range of international and domestic brands and institutions, including Gucci, MX Mooncakes, the Paris Olympics and The New York Times. Her picture books and comics have been published worldwide, and her works have won top international honors including a Gold Medal from SOI and awards from the ADC.

Her representative work Miss Veggie Series has been continuously serialized on social media since 2019. Presented in four-panel comic strips, the work portrays the delightful daily life of anthropomorphic vegetable characters in a modern metropolis. Centered on themes of urban living, fashion, dreams, romance and friendship. The story has deeply resonated with young audiences worldwide. Original artworks from New Pot City were exhibited at the Osaka International Art Expo 2025 and published in Italy.

Limited illustrated packaging for time-honored Yunnan brand Pan Xiang Ji’s new blueberry flower pastry.
Inspired by local ethnic instruments, the artwork depicts a "Spring Concert" showcasing ethnic village architecture, crafts, music, dances, languages, legends, beliefs and rich native flora and fauna.

Visually, this design merges the idea of the traditional full moon—a symbol of reunion—with the theme of a Cosmic Kitchen, offering a fresh perspective on both the celebration of Mid-Autumn and the journey of life.

Miss Veggie

The series titled "Miss Veggie" revolves around female characters.
I started by illustrating snapshots of their daily lives and locked in core themes: urban life, food, fashion, dreams, career, romance and friendship. Every character embodies fragments of my own personality and life experiences.

IF A BUMBLEBEE LANDS ON YOUR TOE

Children’s book, ADC Annual Awards winner, published in China and the US.
I placed the story within the dream of a ballerina, unfolding slowly inside a music box. The visuals are filled with vintage theatrical elements. Though the book appears lavish on the surface, at its core lies a meditation on Zen-maintaining inner stillness amidst complexity and temptation.

The Lucky Red Envelope

Children’s picture book winner of the Society of Illustrators 66th Annual Gold Medal.
Follow a little girl and her family preparing for the Chinese New Year celebration. Blending festive ritual facts with a child’s joyful perspective, the book includes 12 spreads with 144 lift flaps total. Published in both China and the United States.

Alice Rising Carriage

Watercolor illustration series for the Art Novel edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, published by Bond & Grace. Bond & Grace is a women-owned publishing house, and each of their books feels like a finely crafted piece of jewelry—delicate and exquisite.

The Bookstore is a Gateway to the World

The work shows a diverse group of readers immersed in the imaginative worlds of books, using symbolic imagery to represent the inner journeys sparked by reading. Within Whale’s space, people come together to read, share, and experience the vast world that books can open.

Countess Grey

Illustration for Marvis. I got the Earl Grey and when I saw the delicate packaging, I immediately thinking of the porcelain cups and plates with blue willow patterns from Europe. Chinese shadow puppetry also inspired my design of the countess.

CASA ROSY-- Mood of Shanghai

I mixed elements from traditional Chinese wedding dress, the jazz swing age, the old Shanghai singer's style, and maybe some modern fashion, all together, to draw the vibe of Shanghai.
