My name is Ploy, I’m known as Lezi Likes Cake on the internet. I’m an illustrator, character designer, and 2D animator who graduated from SAE University College with a Bachelor’s of Animation. My illustrations focus on blending the supernatural and the fantastical with historical periods such as the 1920s, early 20th century art nouveau and 1920s art deco. I have a personal passion project called Onmyoji City that I created when I was 17, which is a story about Japanese folklore and mythology set in 1920s Taisho era Japan, whom I work with collaborators in terms of drawing and writing.

Masters of Onmyodo

This piece shows the duality of human nature in the form of yin and yang: dark and light, positive and negative, the forces of push and pull. The two characters shown here are the malevolent sorcerer, Ashiya Douman, and the powerful witch, Takiyasha-hime, who were prominent figures in Japan’s medieval history and known wielders of magic, showing two sides that cannot exist without each other. These characters are from my story, Onmyoji City.

I Think About Him All The Time

This piece is an ode to the manga, “Vagabond”, by Takahiko Inoue. It depicts the character, the witch Takiyasha-hime at a younger age realizing her love and affections for her long time friend and her eventual retainer and husband, Mamoru. It was at a time where they were more innocent and childlike, and her feelings were akin to puppy love— a young person’s crush.

A Medieval Yuletide

This piece was a Christmas present for two of my closest long distance friends. I drew all of us in medieval garb with the symbol of the green man, an icon who appears in the Christmas story of ‘Gawain and The Green Knight’, surrounded by mistletoe, a plant often associated with the holiday.

Kaho Sumire - Character Sheet

An official character sheet for one of the four main characters of my story Onmyoji City, Kaho Sumire. An 18 year old girl who gets embroiled in the magic and fantasy of Onmyodo and the Bureau of Onmyo, in the pursuit of finding her missing older sister.

Hinata - Character Sheet

An official character sheet for one of the four main characters of my story, Onmyoji City, Hinata. Hinata is a ‘bakemono’, also known as a yokai— a Japanese supernatural creature and specifically a ‘shiranui’, characterized as mysterious fires occurring on the coasts of the islands of Kyushuu.

Momoka Harime - Character Sheet

An official character sheet for one of the four main characters of my story, Onmyoji City, Momoka Harime. A bakemono herself, specially a hinoenma— a former brothel girl from Japan’s Kamakura period who was the victim of violence and revived by her wrath and need for vengeance against those who have hurt her and other girls victim to the seedy red light district.

Kusanagi Katagiri - Character Sheet

An official character sheet for one of the four main characters of my story, Onmyoji City, Kusanagi Katagiri IV also known as Nagi. Hailing from a renowned Onmyoji clan who were the descendants of the great kami of fortune and storms, Susanoo no Mikoto, he is a respected member of the Bureau of Onmyo and carries with him a great deal of expectations for someone his age.
