ดอกบัวยามค่ำ (Night Lotus)

"ดอกบัวยามค่ำ
สีน้ำตาลปนทองนิดๆ
ถึงจะยังมืดๆ ครึ้มๆ
แต่ก็ยังมีความระยิบระยับ
ของพระอาทิตย์ตกดินอยู่
ดอกบัวก็ดูพระอาทิตย์ตกดิน
สนุกเลย"

"Night lotus,
a little bit brown and gold.
Even though it is still dark and cloudy,
but it still has the sparkle
of the sunset.
The lotus is watching the sunset,
having so much fun."

ฝักบัว (Lotus pod)

ฝักบัวเท่าหัวคน!
"ฝักบัว ตอนที่ยังเป็นเด็กอยู่
เริ่มมาจากดอกบัว
เพราะว่า ฝักบัวคือเกสรดอกบัว
ที่ขยายมา เป็นรูปสามเหลี่ยม
และเริ่มแรก จะยังมีกลีบดอกบัว
ช่วงที่สอง จะเริ่มกลีบหลุดร่วง
ช่วงที่สาม จะไม่มีกลีบ
ช่วงที่สี่ จะเป็นฝักบัวที่โตเต็มวัย
พร้อมเก็บเมล็ดไปกินแล้ว
และช่วงสุดท้าย
ก่อนจะเป็นวงเวียนเหมือนเดิม จากดอกบัว
คือ ช่วงที่ฝักบัวแก่แล้ว ซึ่งเบามาก
แต่ช่วงที่ยังไม่แก่ หนักจนโน้ม
พอช่วงแก่ ก็เริ่มเอนๆๆๆ
จนเมล็ดที่ปลดล็อคอยู่แล้ว ร่วงลงพื้น
เป็นวัฏจักรดอกบัวถึงฝักบัว
วนไปอยู่อย่างนี้"

Lotus pod as big as a person’s head!

"Lotus pod when it was a baby,
it started from a lotus flower.
Because the lotus pod is the lotus pollen
that grew up into a triangle shape.
And at the first stage, it still has flower petals.
The second stage, the petals start to fall off.
The third stage, it has no petals.
The fourth stage, it is an adult lotus pod,
ready to pick the seeds to eat.
And the last stage,
before it becomes a circle again from the flower,
is when the lotus pod is old and very light.
But when it is not old, it is so heavy that it bends down.
When it gets old, it starts to lean, lean, lean,
until the seeds that are already unlocked fall to the ground.
This is the cycle of the lotus flower to the lotus pod,
going round and round like this."

ดอกบัวคู่ (Twin Lotus)

"ดอกบัวจากกลีบเล็กจิ๋ว ค่อยๆ โตขึ้น
ใหญ่ขึ้นเรื่อยๆ
เริ่มผลิบาน เป็นดอกบัวที่สวยงาม
ผลิบาน ร่วงหล่น
กลีบนั้นร่วงหล่นลงพื้น
เกิดเป็นเม็ดบัว
เม็ดบัวก็ร่วงหล่น
กลับมาเป็นเหมือนเดิม"

"Lotus from a tiny little petal,
slowly grows up,
getting bigger and bigger,
starts to bloom
into a beautiful lotus flower.
Bloom,
fall down,
that petal falls down to the ground,
changes into a lotus seed.
The lotus seed falls down too,
and comes back to be the same as before."

‘ควาย’ กับ ‘ดอกบัวบาน’ (Buffalo And Blooming Lotus)

‘สกิล‘ วาดรูปควายในหน้าหนึ่งก่อน
แล้วจึงวาดรูปดอกบัวอีกหน้าหนึ่ง
ให้สังเกตความแข็งแกร่งของควาย
และความอ่อนโยนอ่อนหวานของดอกบัว

‘สกิล‘ เคยเห็นควายอยู่ในบึงในน้ำ
เขาเคยเห็นดอกบัวอยู่กลางบึงใหญ่
แล้วเขาก็เอาสองสิ่งนี้มารวมกัน
ในกระดาษแผ่นเดียว

'Skill' drew a buffalo on one side first,
and then drew a lotus on the other side.
Look at how strong the buffalo is,
and how soft and sweet the lotus is.

'Skill' used to see buffalos in the pond, in the water.
He used to see lotuses in the middle of a big pond.
And then he put these two things together,
on the same piece of paper.

‘ดอกบัวบาน’ กับ ‘ควาย’ (Blooming Lotus And Buffalo)

"จริงๆ อันนี้ ไม่มีน้ำลงก่อน
แต่ว่าสีเป็นสีน้ำก็เลยต้องปาด
ปาดทุกครั้งน่ะ แล้วก็ซับแทบทุกครั้ง
กว่าจะได้มา
แล้วหนูก็ตั้งใจ
ที่จะทำให้ตรงนี้วิบวับด้วยนะ
ให้มันเหมือนพระอาทิตย์ส่องแสงมา
แล้วมันก็มาเป็นประกายวิบวับ วิบวับ
ที่ดอกบัว
จริงๆ มันเป็นดอกบัวที่กำลัง...
ตรงนี้กำลังจะร่วง
แล้วก็เป็นฝักบัว
จริงๆ น่ะ
มันก็คล้ายๆ กับอีกรูป
ที่มันเป็นบัวหมุน
หมุนตะลิ่วติ้ว
ตะลิ่วติ้ว ติ้ว
ตะแล่วแต้ว แต้ว แต้ว
ตะลิ่วติ้วเลย"

"Really, this one, I didn't put water down first.
But the color looks like water, so I had to swipe it.
Swipe it every time,
and wipe it almost every time,
to make it like this.
And I really tried hard
to make this part sparkly too!
To make it look like the sun is shining down,
and then it becomes sparkly, sparkly, on the lotus flower.
Really, it is a lotus flower that is...
this part is going to fall off,
and then it becomes a lotus pod.
Really, it looks a little bit like
the other picture,
the one that is a spinning lotus.
Spinning round and round,
round and round,
round,
spin, spin,
spin, spin,
spinning all the way around!"

แมวสะดุ้ง (The Cat Jumps!)

"แมวกำลังนอนฝันดีอยู่
แล้วลายเซ็นก็เดินมาแตะแมว
แมวมันก็เลยตื่น ลุกมา ตกใจ"

"The cat is having a good dream.
And then the signature walks over and touches the cat.
So the cat wakes up,
stands up, and gets startled!"

ลายเซ็นขี่ไก่ไปเดินเล่น (The Signature Rides a Chicken to Go for a Walk.)

"ตอนเช้า ลายเซ็นขี่ไก่ไปเดินเล่น
ไก่ได้กลิ่นหนอน กลิ่นดิน
กลิ่นหญ้าที่ระเหยขึ้นมา
เป็นวันหน้าฝน
ตอนเช้าที่แดดร่ม
พวกไก่หากิน พวกนกหากิน
พวกกระรอกหากิน
สัตว์หากินตอนเช้า
พอตอนเย็น นกกลับรัง
กระรอกกลับโพรงต้นไม้
ไก่กลับบ้าน
ไปหาลูกเจี๊ยบ"

"In the morning,
the signature rides a chicken to go for a walk.
The chicken smells worms,
smells dirt,
and smells the grass coming up.
It is a rainy day,
a morning with no sun.
The chickens look for food,
the birds look for food,
the squirrels look for food,
animals look for food in the morning.
Then in the evening,
the birds go back to their nests,
the squirrels go back to their tree holes,
the chickens go back home
to see their baby chicks."

"เจ้าไก่กระพือปีกบิน
เจ้าไก่กระพือปีกบินไปแวะเติมพลัง
เจ้าไก่บินขึ้นเนินเขา
เจ้าไก่ร่อนลงมาจากเนินเขา
เจ้าไก่กระพือปีกเพื่อร่อนลงมา
เจ้าไก่กระพือปีกบินร่อนไปหาลูกเจี๊ยบ
เจ้าไก่กระพือปีกดังกะพึ่บกะพั่บ"

"The chicken flaps its wings and flies.
The chicken flaps its wings and flies to get some energy.
The chicken flies up the hill.
The chicken glides down from the hill.
The chicken flaps its wings to glide down.
The chicken flaps its wings and glides to see its baby chicks.
The chicken flaps its wings, flap-flap, flap-flap!"

'Skill' Panatthorn Fakthong The first ever story-telling author of The Butterfly Children Publishing. Skill was born on January 1st, 2020 in the province of Nakhorn Sawan. At five years old, he has not started attending school yet. He likes to help around the house, and enjoys going to the rice field behind his house to see his friends; birds and insects, to feed fish, and to look at the sky and the sun. He is a cheerful and talkative kid, and likes talking to grown ups. Skill is a multi-talented artist who narrated and illustrated a published book titled ‘YOUR SUN MY SUN.’ He painted a series of over 100 paintings for this book when he was 3-4 years old. Skill has also received a certificate from the Minister of Culture for the 100 Annual Book and Cover Design 2024. In 2025, Skill had his first solo art exhibition in January at GalileOasis Gallery, Bangkok. In the same year, he had his second solo exhibition at Tang Seng Jua (Saen Phu Dat branch), Chachoengsao province. And in October, he was invited as a guest artist at the Bangkok Illustration Fair 2025.
