| Saori Hata is a Japanese visual artist based in the United States and Tokyo. Her work is inspired by the quiet presence of old objects that continue to exist long after their makers have been forgotten. As a child, she spent many hours in antique shops, where this fascination first began. Later, she studied European decorative arts at Musashino Art University, deepening her interest in creating works that become part of everyday life. She aims to create objects that people will keep and cherish for many years. Like a worn blanket, a favorite stuffed animal, or a well-loved piece of furniture, she wants her work to become more meaningful over time. In recent years, Saori has been creating an imaginary world called Land of Strayberry. Dogs, birds, horses, mammoths, and other animals live there. They are not symbols or characters in a story. They simply live, grow old, and disappear. Her work quietly observes and records everyday life. Alongside paintings on wood panels, Saori creates lamps, wall sculptures, and other decorative objects. These works bring her painted world into everyday living spaces. She creates works that people can live with, use, and enjoy for many years.Through these works, she explores the connection between art, decoration, and daily life. |

Black Dog Family Tree
2026 / Gouache on wood / This wall decoration is based on the idea of a dog family tree. I painted each dog with a different expression, imagining what kind of family they might belong to. The work aims to combine the objectivity of a field guide or specimen display with the enjoyment of decorative art.
Red Birds
2025 / Watercolor on wood panelThis work depicts two red birds on wooden panels. The combination of vivid red and soft blue creates a quiet sense of tension. Through its simple composition, I aimed to create a work in which the colors, negative space, and the distance between the two birds leave a lasting impression.
White Horses

I arranged the animals and plants to create a composition in which their shapes and colors complement each other. Rather than depicting a real landscape, the work presents a space that feels somehow familiar, as if time has stopped.
Mammoth
2025 / Watercolor on wood panel / This work depicts a mammoth on wooden panels. Rather than treating the extinct animal as something separated from the present, I painted it as a natural part of the landscape. The soft colors throughout the work give it a calm and gentle presence.
Dog Lamp

By applying my painting series to an everyday object, I explore the boundary between household objects and decorative art. Whether the light is on or off, the lamp can be enjoyed as a single work of art.
Palm Reading Lamp
2025 / Lamp, Watercolor, Lacquer spray / This work is painted on a vintage lamp. I combined different motifs, including a red hand, fruit, and small birds, on a single lampshade. By painting on an everyday household object, I aim to create something that exists between a functional object and a work of art.
Bird Wall Decoration
2026 / Watercolor and Gouache on wood / This wall decoration is cut from wood and hand-painted. It brings the birds from my paintings into three-dimensional form. By displaying it on a wall, I wanted to create the feeling that a small creature has settled into the space.
Poodle Wall Hook

By giving it the function of a hook, I aimed to create a work that is both a decorative object and a household item. It explores a natural connection between looking at an artwork and using it in everyday life.
