| CU SciDraw combines scientific documentation with artistic observation to deepen students’ engagement with nature and inspire a commitment to biodiversity conservation. Through this program, current students and alumni explore, record, and illustrate natural objects with both precision and creativity. As a lecturer and practicing botanical illustrator, I guide students to develop their skills in drawing directly from nature, focusing on accuracy and creativity. I also curate and collage their illustrations to showcase the power of observational drawing in communicating science. Through exhibitions and outreach initiatives, CU SciDraw aims to bring scientific knowledge to the public and advocate for integrating illustration into science education. Complementary
The complementary colors in this collage reflect the harmony and interconnectedness of plants in nature. The lush green symbolizes tranquility and represents photosynthesis, the essential process that sustains plant life. In contrast, the vivid red highlights pollination, a vital stage in the plant life cycle that attracts pollinators and facilitates reproduction. Together, these colors illustrate the balance between growth and reproduction, celebrating the beauty and complexity of plant life.
Silent target
Habitat destruction caused by human activities is one of the greatest threats to plants in natural ecosystems. Unlike animals, plants remain rooted in place, making them easy targets of human disturbance and habitat loss. This artwork features Cephalanthus tetrandrus, a vulnerable species found in the wetlands of Chiang Rai, highlighting the urgent need to protect these often-overlooked targets of urban expansion and conserve the habitats on which they depend.
Kaleidoscope of Life Bloom
Like looking through a kaleidoscope of life, every flower possesses its own unique beauty. Even without color, we still recognize it as a flower, valued for what it is. Yet when filled with color, its beauty becomes even more striking. In the same way, our lives are enriched by the diverse experiences, memories, and moments that shape who we are, creating a vibrant tapestry of beauty and meaning.
Elements of Life Aqua
Elements of Life is a series of five collage artworks inspired by the fundamental elements of nature including fire, water, earth, wind, and wood. Created from scientific illustrations by students, each collage reassembles drawings of plants, animals, and other natural subjects into layered compositions that reflect both the order and complexity of life. This work explores Water, the element that sustains an extraordinary diversity of life, from single-celled algae in freshwater to great marine mammals. Bringing together organisms of contrasting forms and adaptations, from soft-bodied sea cucumbers and rigid sea urchins to edible crabs, venomous lionfish, and blue-ringed octopuses, the artwork highlights water as a force that nurtures both abundance and risk, celebrating the interconnectedness, diversity, and wonder of life shaped by this essential element.

Created from scientific illustrations by students, each collage reassembles drawings of plants, animals, and other natural subjects into layered compositions that reflect both the order and complexity of life. This work explores Earth, the element that grounds and sustains all living things. As all life ultimately returns to the soil, our bodies, like those of other organisms, decompose and become nutrients that support new life. Bringing together organisms that live in and on the soil, including decomposers that drive the cycle of renewal, the artwork highlights Earth’s essential role as both the foundation and sustainer of life, celebrating the interconnected processes that shape the natural world.

This work explores Fire, an embodiment of love, energy, and passion. Sunflowers evoke the radiance of the sun, while jellyfish and chili peppers suggest intensity, heat, and spice. The flower Rak, whose Thai name means “love”, unifies the composition as a symbol of fiery passion, celebrating the warmth, vitality, and emotional energy that drive life forward.

Air is essential for survival, while the movement of wind drives vital ecological processes, dispersing seeds and fruits, supporting the flight of animals, and enabling life to travel beyond its origins. Through this unseen yet powerful element, the artwork reveals the interconnectedness of living things and the continuous movement that shapes the natural world.

Plants embody generosity and vitality, providing shelter, resources, and life support for countless organisms, yet they also possess remarkable strategies for survival. Under stress, they can produce chemical defenses or develop specialized structures, while some animals mimic plant forms as a means of protection. Through these intricate relationships, the artwork reveals the quiet strength and complexity hidden within the natural world.
