Otama lives and works in Matsumoto, a city in the middle of Japan.

She specializes in townscapes, people scenes, and geometric compositions with gradations. Her works consistently reflect her personal daily experiences and observations.

She earned an MA in Communication Design from Central Saint Martins and worked at a design innovation firm before launching her career as an illustrator in 2021.

Slow Walking

A scene from the city of Matsumoto, Japan. The fashion department store PARCO, which opened 40 years ago in this city, is closing its doors. I left an illustration of the most beautiful time of the day with its neon sign.

Window

This is one of a series of landscapes of a department store called PARCO. I tried to compose a scene of window shopping and graphic elements like a logo in this work.

Winter Light

The winter sunlight is sharp and clear. I composed the scene with a mailbox, a tree, and myself to capture the long shadows it created.

Local Library

I enjoy seeing people across generations sharing a space to read and study.

Tokyo in summer

Omotesando street in summer, shaded and cooled by rows of zelkova trees.

Floating

Cover artwork for “Asterium,” an analog murder mystery game set in space. The aim was to design an image that subtly reflects elements of the scenario without being too literal. A commissioned collaboration with a game designer.

Observation

I'm fascinated by the universe as seen from where I stand.

Blue

This composition features a range of blue tones — including the blue of the sky, the ocean, and the trees.A commissioned piece for Toyo Seikan, a manufacturer of cans and containers.

Fish Mint

In June, many dokudami flowers grow in the garden. Although their dense clusters seem intimidating, a single flower is quite lovely.

Peach Composition

An artwork created to be displayed in a restaurant located in a peach-producing region.
