Hello, it's Broccolily!
My name is Natedow Ongartthaworn, or just Lily. Grew up in a Thai-Chinese, Japan-educated household, I am influenced and inspired by oriental culture. Grimm brothers' macabre (and totally not for children) tales taught me how to read at 5, and I was never the same since then. My illustration is the culmination of my dark dreams. I create worlds I never want to stay in, but just a short trip would be thrilling. Decapitating my subjects and put them in tough spots.
I also work outside flat surfaces, frequently fabricating paper into doll clothes, wood into tiny furnitures, and sometimes sculpt animals from soap bubbles. Currently, I am residing in Tokyo as a master degree student in Science of Design, at Musashino Art University.
Dangerous Waters
Oh, what have I gotten myself into?
Such sharp edges! Such menacing fins!
To ward off evils, I gather my weapons
Living as a rogue wooden doll
It's a tough, big, and dangerous water
Mystery, macabre, medieval, miniature
A Swallow's Nest
Swallow quick, swallow your pills
I will give you a new dollhouse
To raise pretty little swallows in
To decorate with cabinets and dressers
And even tinier dollhouses
Then be swallowed,
bring your tallow, and follow deep inside!
Off with the Head
Draw me, dress me
Then realize you don't like how I look
So you cut me, erase me,
pair me, with a headless someone
Curly Cat, Spikey Porcupine
Where's the Curly Cat going?
To the barn!
Why is he going there?
To meet the porcupine!
Where is the porcupine?
In the cat's stomach, long eaten
Then what's that spikey thing?
Funerary, memorial picture of the late porcupine!
Egg Notes
Drawing in an oval-shaped frame always resulted in a portrait-like effect. I wanted to sketch in them, so I made a series of covers to go with the egg-shaped sketchbook!
Scattered on My Work Desk
I am a very proud owner of a deep oak-colored work desk. Trinkets and tools scattered around became my test subjects, and they are my only friends during work hours. I do think they became alive after I go to sleep and just go about their days (doing no work for me).
First Time Sharer
The only child about to become a sister. It is a scary, exciting, happy, depressing experience to realize that you must share the people you love the most with someone else(s).
I don't know it myself, I am the youngest sister. A very spoiled one too.
Wine, Flower, Eye, and a Pervert
A series of illustrations meant to be folded in three. Now let's use some imagination.
Say you held up an A4 paper and covered the lower two-thirds of the picture, now you see it!
Curry Boat, Curry Boat
Sail along, my brave soldiers!
In the sea of creamy, tasty, hearty curry.
We find carcass of dead cows, dead plants, dead everything
And at last, a mass of land!
White and fluffy, hot, way too hot
Perhaps this is the end. Brace! Brace! Brace!
Lily of the Valley, Teacups Set
'Don't push me!'
'YOU don't push us!'
'Oh but I'm the most fragile!'
'...Learn to be considerate, will you?'
'I really don't like being quadruplets!!!'
BKKIF ARTIST SPECIAL
More Artwork/Merchandise:
Illustrations are one of the means I use to conduct design research. Sometimes, they border on the act of cataloging findings, and other times, the act of recording emotions. I grab leaves from bookkeeping pads, receipts, and prints with intended function to store my own designs. They are plainly too many to produce in real life.
As a means to explore existentialism, fleeting moments, and the ongoing process of creation and destruction, I illustrated lives in soap bubbles and watercolor in the video below.
Coconut Icecream in Versailles
Original ceramic design collection, from handmade picture book with short stories 「Plates, Bowls, and Cups」, first printed and sold in 2019.
How many times has Mother told you not to use my precious, Rococo-style glass ice cream cup with your lowly street-vendor coconut ice cream? This is unacceptable, Jomkwan. Go and wash it off right now!
Worshipping Cherries Butter Box
Original ceramic design collection, from handmade picture book with short stories 「Plates, Bowls, and Cups」, first printed and sold in 2019.
The squirrels gather to worship cherries.
A Bit Bitter
Original ceramic design collection, from handmade picture book with short stories 「Plates, Bowls, and Cups」, first printed and sold in 2019.
'Way too bitter', the spoon thought, bitterly. 'Just have a bitter melon juice if you are going to drink your coffee this black'. His tail puffed up furiously from being made to go round and round in the dark substance.
Horse Race Against Moving
Original ceramic design collection, from handmade picture book with short stories 「Plates, Bowls, and Cups」, first printed and sold in 2019.
Marcus, this is the last time we will tolerate your behavior in the race field. Are you really serious about this? Do you have it in you to be the best Standing-Still racing horse in this country? If you want to run that much, get out of our team already. What a disgrace!
Lily of the Valley Cake Platter
Serve the revenge cold and sweet on this platter.
Apple Kendama
Newtonian toy. Apple falls because of gravity, but goes back up when you practice hard enough.
Grapes / 2021
Washi paper, grape stem
I notice each grape represents a unit, and grapes are a series of pouches one after another. With the idea of ‘series’ and ‘stack’ in mind this seed stall, gardening shop displaying rack was born.
Eggs within an Egg / 2021
Bird eggs, polymer clay, hay
In the garden around my house we often find abandoned bird nests, sometimes with empty eggs. The tiny little traces of new life are vulnerable and enclosing. I love the form of the egg that looks like it was hugging, protecting something. The three layer nest–egg was then born from that idea.
The Squirrel’s Foraging Diary / 2021
Hazelnut shell, wood, paper, hand-painted and written
I often watch squirrels taking bites of berries and papayas out of my room’s window. So I began to take note of food they like and created what should look like a squirrel to keep a foraging journal. The 1-inch-long diary comes with a hazelnut shell case and stationeries such as a pencil, a brush, and an ink tablet.

Pansy Fan / 2021
Metal, polymer clay, plastic, motor
A miniature fan with pansy petals as its propeller. Pansy has a mesmerizing composition of colors, but with the spinning motion, the colors have become even more deep and more brilliant. A flower bed full of spinning pansies would be such a view. The wire

Materials, scales, and function of parts in the two different appliances made has become one of the topics I want to research more deeply in the future.

Peeling: the Molting of Children / 2022
Archival washi
Under the research theme of ‘Peeling’, I sought many interpretations of this word. Whether it is the pleasant feeling of a smooth peel, or the relish in invading, exposing something pure and vulnerable. For the first entry in this research, I went after the interpretation of ‘growing out of the current skin’.
Peeling: the Molting of Children / 2022
These casts are tiny, tiny shells. Roughly the same size as an insect’s. When I left them lying around my room, I often look at them feeling melancholy. Peeling is perhaps, the way we swim along the passage of time.

Broccolily's works and her thought processes are much enjoyable. Personally love "Peeling" concept and execution. The artist's experimental pieces and unusual miniatures give smiles and curiosity.
